Beast Research

      White Rabbit (Jason)
a.       A rabbit with white fur. Constantly late for appointments. Prime and proper, working as a messenger and assistant to the Queen of Hearts. Is seen wearing a waistcoat and always running around looking at his pocket watch.

2.   14.   Smoking Caterpillar (Ian)
a.       An old wise, blue caterpillar. Living in woods near the Duchess, and always seen sitting on a large mushroom smoking a hookah.  Very literal and straight forward in speech.  Honest and when he doesn’t know something he says so, even if just responding to a figure of speech.

18.   Cheshire-cat (Bradon)
a.       The Cheshire-Cat may look like a normal cat, but its large grin is proof otherwise. With long claws and many sharp teeth, the Cheshire-Cat may look like a dangerous foe. Instead the Cheshire-Cat is very playful and plays more from behind the scenes causing trouble rather than face it head on. This is very convenient for the greatest ability, other than talking, is the ability to disappear and reappear at will.
2
22.   Hatter (Brandon)
a.       Nothing seems very remarkable about the Hatter. What seems like a well to do Hatter with a large hat and bow-tie, all falls apart when he speaks. Raving mad, and suffering from being unable to tell time. With the March Hare he keeps moving around his table in a constant time being Tea Time.
23.   March Hare
a.       Like the Hatter, the March Hare looks like a normal Hare, other than the ability to speak and wearing a bow-tie with jacket. The March Hare also lost the ability to tell time, and is stuck in a never ending Tea Time.

25.   Cards (2, 7, 5, Kings, Queens, Jacks, Hearts Spades, Clubs. etc) [Everyone]
a.       The servants and soldiers to the King and Queen of Hearts. Looking like normal playing cards. They follow loyally to the King and Queen. The suit in which the card is determines its position. The spades are classified as the servants such as gardeners, while the hearts are all royalty.
26.   Knave of Hearts (Ian)
a.       The personal servant and herald of the King and Queen. Where ever the King and Queen are, the Knave of hearts is there right in front of them. Not only does the Knave announce the arrival of the King and Queen, but also scribes and carries the crowns.

27.   King of Hearts (Pat)
a.       The King of Hearts, and Ruler of Wonderland. Very calm and always in the shadow of his Queen. Although he may be the one who has the say and gives the commands, it is the Queens voice that puts them in his head.

28.   Queen of Hearts
a.       The true Ruler of Wonderland. Always goes around with her trusted Executioner. Her favorite term is “Off with their Head!” No matter the offense this is the answer to it. This makes every citizen of Wonderland always on edge.

33.   Gryphon (Ian)
a.       Part Eagle part Lion. The ability to fly, most Gryphon’s are very predatorily, but the servant to the Queen of Hearts is very calm. An educated creature, taught by the Classical Master. Spends his time with the Mock Turtle, dancing and telling stories. Very different than the normal Gryphon.

34.   Chess Pieces (Pat)

a.       What might seem like ordinary chess pieces, on closer examination you can see they move and talk. Although not the most intelligent beings, always forgetting and easily scared. They can’t see other creatures, and this tends to make them really confused as people start moving them around.
35.   Jabberwocky (Jason)
a.       The mighty Jabberwocky. Very few creatures are as fierce as him. With very sharp claws, and large teeth. Even if those were not scary enough, his fire red eyes will scare any passerby.  The only way to harm the mighty Jabberwocky, is with the mighty Vorpal Blade.

36.   Bandersnatch (Pat)
a.       Not as furious as the Jabberwocky, but still a creature to be feared. What might look like a large tree, could actually be the mighty Bandersnatch. Although the creature looks large there are very few creatures faster than the frumious Bandersnatch.  Like the Jabberwocky, the only weapons that can harm it are the Vorpal Blade or a Winxy Pistol.
3
43.   Red Queen (Ian)
a.       A larger version of the red queen chess piece. A picture of true royalty. One must be very respectful when speaking to the Red Queen. As one would expect from a Queen Chess piece, she is not hindered in her movement and has the ability move extremely fast whenever she wishes.

44.   Tweedledee & Tweeledum
a.       The twins are an interesting two people. Very cowardly and a love for poems. These two are never seen apart and compliment the other. These two believe the world around them, including themselves are just a dream of the Red King.  Very few things will separate these two, except for the stealing of a rattle which will cause them to be in arms against each other.

45.   Humpty Dumpty (Jason)
a.       Nothing gets past  this egg. Sitting on his wall waiting for the promise of the King.  He has a disability of thinking everyone looks alike, all the faces of the people he meets are the same. This means that everyone he meets is the first time he meets them.
4
52.   Rocking-Hoarse Fly (Bradon
a.       One of the many insects of the world. This insect is a very tiny version of a wooden rocking horse, the only difference is the wings that it moves around with.

53.   Snap-Dragon Fly (Brandon)
a.       What might look like a normal dragonfly, on closer inspection you can see it is a little different.  The body is plum-pudding,  its wings are made of holly-leaves,  and a head of raisin burning in brandy.  It makes its nest in a christmas-box and eats frumenty and mince-pie.

54.   Bread-and-Butter Fly (Brandon)
a.       A fly with wings made of thin slices of bread and butter, its body is the crust and head of a lump of sugar. The Bread and Butter fly lives on a diet of weak tea with cream.

56.   Red King (Pat)
a.       The Red King is a very lazy King. Spending all his time sleeping. Nothing really has the ability to wake the Red King. He lies under a tree in the Dark Forest "fit to snore is head off" as Tweedledum would say.

57.   White Queen (Pat)
a.       For a Queen, she is very disheveled. Always needing help when getting dressed. She pays a servant twopence for a day of work, and jam every other day. She gives jam yesterday and tomorrow, but never today.  Everything in her mind works backwards. So the outcome of an event was a week ago, the trial for the event was yesterday, but the crime happens next week.

Minimalistic animated elements reference

http://youtu.be/KcmM7Jh2Y3k

that is the link to Homer Simpsons Mad Men parody. It's basically a minimal homer simpsons over complex backgrounds. so combining minimalistic elements with other more detailed elements will be fine too. The one disadvantage for minimalistic elements is that the audience need to know the subject to really get it. But since we will have a clear indications through the intro and text telling the audience this is Alice in Wonderland, they will know enough to appreciate the silhouettes.

Illustration style guide

For my illustrations I am going with minimalistic style.
And here is something not alice in wonderland but very good reference for what I want to do. Style has very minimal shading, and details (since we are doing silhouette of some creatures anyway this will work with our timeline and scope)

The detail will be in the texture/color and animation of the creatures we want to animate. Becareful though, don't let the simplicity fool you, you need to know something well to simplify it to be recognizable using this minimalistic style. You control this by the color choice(ie. Alice is know be a blond with a blue dress + the white apron), what you emphasis(shape of shadow) and the contour of the creature/environment/object

General Idea

Using a Parchment/textured paper, have a path move around an area, meeting the various creatures as it goes. Names of the creatures will be "written down" on the page, and the path will continue.

We're putting concepts together separately, and deciding which pieces will fit together as the best possible idea.

Creature List

These creatures will be the one mainly focused on during the animation.

Pat:
  1. King of Hearts
  2. Mock Turtle
  3. Bandersnatch
  4. Chess Pieces
  5. Red King
  6. White Queen

Jason:
  1. White Rabbit
  2. Humpty Dumpty
  3. Jabberwocky
